Real Worship

A Friend sent me a video this week that had a line that stopped me in my tracks. The line said "Worship ain't panic with heaven attached".

It got me thinking about the biblical ideology of worship compared to our modern concept of it. If we dig into scripture, worship is a lifestyle of praise to the One who created us and saved us, the one who was, is and is to come. However modern christianity has diminished worship to an act of singing some songs before the preaching starts on Sunday morning, or something we do as a special event.

We pick our churches on if the "worship style" fits our desires. Churches divide over the style of "worship". WHAT IF worship was not something we participated in or sat and watched, what if it was how we lived our lives!

We will wear a Jesus shirt, get a scripture tattoo, and hang cute religious sayings in our home, but do we live a lifestyle that reflects Jesus?

Believe me when I say this message is hitting home for me too. Most often I will write about something that the Holy Spirit is convicting me of, and I'm just sharing my failures and daily need for grace with you all. Our pastor said this week in his sermon, "Do you live in a Christian home or do Christians live in your home?" Wow!

So how does this translate to Abide & Roam? Well, it starts with small "sacrifices" if we can even call them that. We give up an hour of our vacation time once a day to gather together with other believers and encourage each other. This is a scriptural act of worship! One hour, once a day. Statistically speaking most of us will spend quadruple that amount of time on our phones daily, and if you aren't a phone person maybe its reading books, working out, serving etc. None of those things are inherently bad, but when we let them become more powerful in our lives than spending genuine time with God, they become what we worship.

We are only two people and we can only be in one place at a time, so our goal is to equip and encourage other believers to facilitate and lead these groups wherever they go! Imagine if every cruise ship, every theme park, every beach and mountain in the US had believers gathering once a day to fellowship, pray and read God's love letter to his people?
